Dungeon Master (DM)

A player that runs most aspects of a tabletop roleplaying game. As narrator they describe the world and set the scene. They act as arbiter of the rules by adjudicating player actions and making the final call on rule disputes. Because the DM simulates the entire game-world they control almost all non-player characters and enemies. It’s the DM’s job to provide the adventuring party with quests and obstacles to interact with. When the party comes across trouble the DM runs the combat encounter and decides what actions the enemy characters take.

Grand Archives

A resplendent multi-story building packed with a wealth of knowledge, magical artifacts, and bizarre happenstances. Located two miles up the hill from Var-City it overlooks the campus town at the front and a glistening lake at the back. The architecture is gothic-cathedral-esque with ornate stonework, towers and spires, domes, and stained glass windows. A little bit Hogwarts, a little bit Notre-Dame, and a dash of Library of Congress it manages to both captivate the imagination and defy logic.

Tabletop Roleplaying Game (TTRPG)

A TTRPG is, broadly, a co-op game played with a group. Usually, a Game Master (GM) or Dungeon Master (DM) runs the game, while a group of players participate. Most TTRPGs have a set of core rules that everyone agrees to. With the guidance of the GM, these rules keep the game running smoothly. Sometimes referred to as pen-and-paper games, TTRPGs have their roots in filling out a physical character sheet and playing around a table. Many tabletop games utilize accessories such as dice, cards, miniatures, and battle maps. Presently, tabletop roleplaying games are played in-person or online with the aid of chat applications and virtual tabletop (VTT) software.
